Alumni Network Codes of Conduct
For Alumni
Your Alumni Network is just what you make of it. The stronger the network remains, the greater the value of your degree and the greater the return on your education investment. We encourage you to be an "Alumnus of Honor" and remember the following:
- Be courteous.
Assist your fellow alumni and students with their career information needs; be responsive to inquiries, even if just to say you are unavailable at the time.
- "Think Merage First" and refer a potential MBA student or a job opportunity to the Merage School.
- Adhere to the Privacy & Database Usage Policy (below).
For Current Students
As "alumni-in-training," you are most welcome in the Merage School family. We encourage you to take advantage of the tremendous resources of the Alumni Network, but we ask that you be a "Student of Honor" and remember the following:
- Be courteous and respectful of busy alumni; help them to help you with complete contact information, a full description on why you are contacting them and what you hope to achieve by including them in your network.
- Contact requests should be made one-to-one to individuals, and not group lists.
- Reference what it is about the alum and/or their position that makes you think they are an ideal contact.
- Adhere to the Privacy & Database Usage Policy (below).
Privacy & Database Usage Policy
The password-protected Alumni Network directory containing alumni profiles and contact information is provided by The Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine, to qualified alumni and graduate students solely for communications relating to the Merage School and its activities. Individual alumni may designate what information is to be shared with others by editing his or her profile online.
Use of alumni contact information for any other purpose including, but not limited to, commercial, religious, or political communications, or reproducing and storing this data in a retrieval system by any means, electronic or otherwise, is strictly prohibited and is in direct violation of copyright and constitutes misappropriation of property. All information viewed or retrieved is to be kept confidential at all times. At no time are "mass mailings" of any size to be sent without expressed permission from the Alumni Network. Failure to abide by any of the policies stated above will result in the denial of access to The Paul Merage School of Business Alumni database. Misuse of alumni data and these policies may also be referred to University legal counsel for possible further legal action.
Questions or complaints of misuse can be directed to MerageAlum@merage.uci.edu for immediate action.
