A Message from Dean Andrew J. Policano

The success of corporate sustainability initiatives may become the most significant factor in the future definition of a leader. As the most predominant topic of our time, environmental sustainability and the leaders who “get it” will secure their spot in history for generations to come. In just a few short years, it is astounding the progress corporations have made toward designing and implementing environmentally sustainable business practices. To move from questioning the validity of global warming concepts to initiating worldwide programs to reducing the carbon footprint of multinational corporations is true progress.

At UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of business, we are integrating sustainable concepts into the core of our curriculum. We are continuing our commitment with a future focus emphasizing carbon neutral operations and high efficiency manufacturing. Our students embrace innovation in sustainable practices as a fundamental part of successful business, with an understanding that improving the standard of living for everyone – by making the world more productive and sustainable – is a goal worth achieving.

We invite you to join us at this year’s global business conference where you’ll hear from many of the most significant leaders in the sustainability movement. Beyond basic recycling practices, they are innovating safe and sustainable manufacturing technologies that increase productivity, allow companies to meet business objectives and improve their ability to compete.

You, too, can be one of these leaders: learning best practices, networking with others also interested in making an impact at their organizations, and taking advantage of an educational opportunity that only UC Irvine can offer.  I look forward to seeing you there.
