The checklist below will help ensure that you have everything you need before you begin our convenient online applications process.
Online Application Form
Once you're ready to apply online, you will be asked to create an account with a username and password. You will find it easy for you to start your application, save your work, and return to it at a later time to complete it. Then you can begin completing the application with personal and academic data, etc.
Please send official copies of transcripts for each college and university attended to: The Paul Merage School of Business, UC Irvine Full-Time MBA, 4293 Pereira Drive, Suite 4100, Irvine, CA 92697-3125. Transcripts that are scanned and uploaded to the online application are not considered official. Official transcripts must be received before a thorough evaluation is conducted.
Candidates may apply to the program if they hold the equivalent of a four-year U.S. Bachelor's degree. Transcripts from non-U.S. universities should include evidence of degree conferral (proof of graduation). International applicants should refer to the International Applicant page for more specific requirement.
Official GMAT or GRE Score
Starting in the 2011-2012 admissions cycle, we will accept the GRE in lieu of the GMAT. All applicants are required to take either the GMAT or GRE and are at no advantage or disadvantage by taking one exam over the other. The acceptance of the GRE is new for the Merage School, so averages are not available at this time. GRE scores are valid for up to five years from your test date. A minimum GMAT score does not exist; however, students who entered the MBA Program in the past years have reported an average score between 670 and 675. GMAT scores are valid for up to five years from your test date. GMAT exam results should be sent to The Paul Merage School of Business, Full-time MBA Program, institution code: 0DP-7R-16. Official TOEFL Score (international applicants only)
The recommended minimum score for admission is 600 for the paper-based test or 80 for the Internet-based test. TOEFL scores are valid for up to two years from your test date. Applicants may receive a waiver of the TOEFL if all of the requirements for the high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree were completed in a country where the primary and dominant language is English and English was the language of instruction of the school. As an alternative to the TOEFL, you may also take the Academic Modules of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Pearson Test of English (PTE). For the IELTS, the minimum required score for admission is 7, with a score of no less than 6 on any individual module. You must submit a Test Report Form (TRF) to: The Paul Merage School of Business, SB 220, University of California, Irvine, CA 92697-3125 - Attention: Full-Time MBA. The PTE minimum required score for admission is 53. Scores are valid for two years.
It is preferred that recommenders complete the online recommendation form and submit any addtional letters through our online system. However, if your recommenders prefer to submit their recommendation form and an optional letter in the mail, we will accept it in a signed and sealed envelope directly from the recommender.
Recommendations from direct supervisors are preferred. They may also be obtained from people who know you professionally, such as clients, former bosses, or others who know your professional abilities. Recommendations from professors are not helpful unless you have done extensive work or research with them, or you have been out of school for less than two years.
The application requests one essay and one optional essay. Please answer the questions within the space limits indicated.
Employment History – Resume
While work experience is not a requirement for admission, the vast majority of MBA students have an average of five years of full-time work experience. Submit a copy of your resume and for each position held, include the name and website of the organization, job title, a detailed description of your responsibilities, and reason for leaving.
$150 Application Fee
The non-refundable application fee of $150 must be paid by credit card through the online application system.
Interviews are by invitation only and are required for admission. If invited to an interview, you will be informed by the Recruitment and Admissions office via email. Whenever possible, applicants are encouraged to conduct interviews on campus. However, for those applicants unable to travel to Irvine, telephone interviews are acceptable. The interview is both evaluative and informative. It is not only an opportunity for us to learn more about you, but also for you to learn more about the MBA Program at The Paul Merage School of Business. Interviews are conducted by the Recruitment and Admissions Staff.
