Allergan is a global specialty pharmaceutical and medical device company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative products for the ophthalmology, neurosciences, medical dermatology, medical aesthetics and other specialty markets with revenues exceeding $3 billion annually. Southern California produces more biomedical products and research than any other area in the world and accounts for 25% of all FDA medical product approvals.

Beckman Coulter is a leading manufacturer of biomedical testing instrument systems, tests and supplies that automate laboratory processes with annual sales of $2.5 billion. Orange County is the most diversified high-tech economy in the U.S. and is home to a wide variety of firms such as Gateway, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, Conexant, Linksys (Cisco), Jazz Semiconductor, Western Digital, Kingston Technology, FileNet, QLogic, Emulex, Mitsubushi Digital Electronics and Toshiba (Information Systems, Electronic Components, Medical Systems, Business Solutions).

Google is widely recognized as the "world's best search engine" because it is fast, accurate and easy to use.  Their breakthrough technology and continued innovation serve the company's mission of "organizing the world's information and making it universally accessible and useful." Google has a major location in Irvine through its purchase of dMarc Broadcasting (Google Audio). This Fortune 100 firm is the world’s largest technology distributor serving 165,000 resellers in 100 countries. Their success is representative of the role that international trade plays in Orange County’s thriving economy. The county’s total foreign exports exceed $16 billion annually with computers and electronics as the top category with over $5 billion worth of trade.

Mercedes Benz Advanced Design
Mercedes Benz’s first design studio outside of Germany reflects the fact that Southern  California has become the epicenter of automobile design.  Over 14 auto manufacturers have design studios in the area including CALTY (Toyota, Lexus, Scion) in Newport Beach as well as Ford’s Advanced Product Creation, Mazda Research, Kia America’s headquarters and Ford’s Premier Automotive Group headquarters all in Irvine.

Taco Bell is the nation’s leading Mexican-style quick service restaurant chain serving more than 2 billion consumers each year in more than 5,800 restaurants in the U.S. with sales of $1.8 billion in company restaurants and $4.4 billion in franchise restaurants. A climate of creativity has made Orange County the capital of restaurant chains. Twenty-five restaurant chains, from hot dogs to upscale steakhouses have headquarters in the county and post $5.2 billion in annual sales.

Southern California is a hotbed for biomedical careers as it represents the largest concentration of medical product manufacturers in the world.

San Diego County has a well-deserved reputation for the best weather in the continental U.S.  The golf industry is also is attracted by the weather and is headquarters for major firms, including Callaway and Taylor Made. Callaway Golf is a leading manufacturer of golfing equipment under the Callaway, Odyssey, Ben Hogan and Top-Flite brands. Beyond golf, other sports equipment firms are located in the area including K2 Inc. - a leading manufacturer of premier branded equipment for sports as diverse as fishing, watersports, baseball, softball, alpine skiing, snowboarding and in-line skating.
