  Extra Special Extracurricular Activities

The ACG Cup and the Polaris Investment competitions were two key reasons I chose the Merage School. Personally, I have always loved investing and was thinking of starting a career in investment banking. When researching MBA programs, I was looking for some rigorous, high-level, real-life learning experiences that would help me in my career.

I participated in both competitions with the same group of classmates I had met during our Finance elective courses. Both competitions provided me with real life exposure, from presenting to a board of local private equity professionals to investing real money in equities for the Polaris Investment Competition. These experiences were a taste of real life pressure to perform and it was exciting to take the lessons I learned personally and academically and apply them in a safe environment where I could make mistakes and grow.
Broadening Your Horizons On An International Level

One of the highlights of my MBA experience was visiting businesses throughout Shanghai for six days. As part of the Merage School's International Residential program, the class was able to visit a solar energy company, a Ford plant, a Stanley/Black and Decker facility and a Flextronics IC manufacturing center. Visiting these different companies and learning about how business is done in a foreign country was great exposure to international business. I was able to form a more well-rounded opinion on the Chinese economy and its effect in the global business arena.

The International Residential was truly a crash-course/first-hand experience with the global economy. The lessons I've learned in and out of the classroom were practical and applicable to my new career working for a large global company. With these experiences, I feel more prepared to make business decisions with an understanding of its global impact.

  A Chance To Reinvent Yourself

Coming to the Merage School gave me a chance to reinvent my career. I was in commercial banking for about three-and-a-half years before I went back to school to find the right career choice for me. The Merage School provided me with the opportunities to press pause and start over in my career.

The MBA Career Center's expansive resources and close personal guidance help you determine the best direction to channel your skills and interests. The internships I had were intense practicums that involved me in senior-level projects – helping me combine my skills and capabilities in a crucible of reality. I was fortunate to have two separate internships – one in investment banking and the other in corporate finance. Through these different experiences plus the tools the Merage School provides, e.g. leadership opportunities, career workshops, etc., I was able to realize what I really wanted to do.

I am really looking forward to my new career in Corporate Finance for PepsiCo. I look back at where I started from and where I am going now and I don’t think I could have done it without the Merage School.
