I’ve Used My Umbrella Exactly Once

Before coming to the Merage School, I lived in New England. While I enjoy the change of seasons, I really felt encumbered in the winter months. I would check the weather on a daily basis to plan my schedule. Well, in Southern California, one thing I don’t have to do is check the weather every day!

Another great benefit to living and attending school here is that as a runner and swimmer, I can do these activities outside almost whenever I want. And snowboarding is only two hours away. There is really no reason to stay indoors – unless, of course, if you’re studying. Did I mention that I do a lot of that too?
I Wanted a Big University Experience

The college I attended in New England for my undergraduate work was a small private college. I was really attracted to the Merage School because I knew it was part of the prestigious University of California system and I wanted that experience. What’s truly great about being here is that I get the benefits of that big system and the UCI campus, yet I have the intimacy and community that one would experience at a smaller school.

I was also attracted to the Merage School because I knew it had an innovative IT program and strong relationships with top IT firms. The one thing so far that has really surprised me is that I’ve made some of the best friendships I’ve ever had in my life – in a very short amount of time. And the professors here learn your name quickly – you are definitely not anonymous.

  My Classmates Supported Me

When I wanted to get involved in Challenge for Charity, my classmates supported and encouraged me. I didn’t know if I was ready to take on the position of Co-President, but they convinced me that I had the skills to do a great job. One of the highlights was organizing a fund raiser for the Special Olympics.

But perhaps my most cherished memory so far was being captain of the first all girls flag football team. We played in the Flag Football Tournament event through Challenge for Charity. Now that was truly an experience I will never forget – go girls!
