Many Exciting Opportunities

MBA UCI Paul Merage School of Business - Da-Yu ChangWhen I graduated from UC Irvine back in 1998, the then graduate school of management was already a high-ranking, up-and-coming business school. Today, the school is highly recognized for how well it has woven itself into Southern California’s high tech economy. As I desire to continue my career in the medical device industry, this connection through the school is invaluable.

I am certain that the Merage School MBA will open up many new exciting career opportunities. My immediate goal is to attain an executive management position in a research and development department for a medical device company. Aside from career advancement, obtaining an executive management level position will allow me to directly affect the strategic planning that is essential to the growth and prosperity of any organization.

An Enriching Experience

MBA UCI Paul Merage School of Business - Da-Yu ChangSo far the Merage experience has been very enriching. For example, the Organizational Behavior class gave us a crash course on designing and managing teams, motivating others, leading change, and fostering creativity and innovation. Since I have been working in the medical device industry, I am already quite used to working with or leading other people in cross-functional project teams. Although the assignments may be different, the same team-building and conflict-resolution skills apply in both settings.

Since the trend in today’s work place is moving towards the project team approach, practicing this at school can help us to be better team members at work. The concepts that we have learned in the Organizational Behavior class can be immediately applied at work.  Regardless of the industry we work in, my class has obtained better time and people management skills already, having gone through the course.

They Helped Ease My Anxiety

MBA UCI Paul Merage School of Business - Da-Yu ChangOne of the main reasons I chose the Merage School was due to their friendly, honest, and accessible admissions staff. They have been very encouraging, taking time to answer my questions and address my concerns at every stage of the admissions process. This helped ease my anxiety about working full-time and obtaining my MBA. Even so, it’s been quite an adjustment to balance work, school and personal life. Fortunately, my manager and colleagues at work have also been very supportive. And my lunch time now doubles as studying time. But I know in the end, it will all be worth it.
