Admissions Interview

An admissions interview is a required part of the admissions process.  The admissions interview will not only give you the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the school and specifically the Health Care Executive MBA program, but it will also allow us to learn more about you.

Official Transcripts

One copy of your official transcript from all previous universities or colleges attended. All transcripts must be received in their original sealed envelope and either hand-delivered or mailed to the HCEMBA Program Office.

International students: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized academic institution of acceptable standing is required. 
Please provide one official copy of mark sheets/transcript as well as a notarized copy of diploma. If you are unable to attain one official copy, please provide a notarized copy of mark sheets/transcripts or bring your originals to our office for review. Please refer to the International Page for specific requirements or contact our office (949.824.0561).

Online Application Form
To start your application, please click here. You will be asked to create an account with a user name and password. You can easily save your work and return to it at a later time to complete it. You may submit your application prior to or on the deadline.  Our office will contact you via e-mail if any components are missing for your application.

We highly value your experience and career progression as an important criterion for admission to our Health Care Executive MBA program. 


Self-Evaluation Essays
There are two required essays:

Essay 1 (2 page maximum, double spaced)
Health Care Executive MBA (1-2 pages) As healthcare policy continues to influence business practices in the healthcare industry, how you believe the Health Care Executive MBA program will make you a better leader in your organization and industry.

Essay 2 (2 page maximum, double spaced)
Describe a challenging business or management decision you have made. Discuss how it impacted your team, department and/or organization. If you were faced with the same challenge now, would you make the same decision again and why? 



Two Professional Letters of Recommendation
At least one letter should come from your current employer or supervisor, or from recent employers or supervisors.  It should contain specific and relevant details about your performance.


Although not required, the admissions committee encourages candidates to submit a GMAT or GRE score to demonstrate quantitative abilities, with the exception of candidates who hold a terminal degree such as a JD, MD or DDS and those candidates with a masters or PhD in quantitative subject.


Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (International applicants only)

The minimum score required for admission for the Paul Merage School of Business is 600 for the paper-based test, 250 for the computer-based test, or 80 for the Internet-based test. TOEFL scores are valid for up to two years from your test date. Applicants may receive a waiver of the TOEFL if all of the requirements for the high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in a country where the primary and dominant language is English and English was the language of instruction of the school where the requirements were completed.

Application Fee

The non-refundable application fee for the Health Care Executive MBA program is $150 paid by credit card. (The application fee is waived for all applying by the December 1st deadline, or year round for active duty military, U.S. veterans, and UCI Alumni. Please call our office before submitting your application to get that waiver applied, 949.824.0561).
