Conferences
The Center for Leadership and Team Development plans to host conferences where those scholars working at the frontier of research in leadership and teams can present and discuss their scholarship in an intimate setting, in order to advance our knowledge in those areas. Our hope is to publish the conference papers in a book. We are pleased to be able to host our first such conference in 2009.
Center for Leadership and Team Development Inaugural Research Conference
Hyatt Regency Chicago
August 8, 2009
Status in Management and Organizations
The power of status striving in human affairs is widely acknowledged. This is reflected in its early role and established place in sociology and social psychology. Yet, status has had a relatively minor role in studies of leadership and the management disciplines of organizational behavior, organizational theory and strategy. Only relatively recently have scholars turned their attention to the powerful role of social status in explaining leadership, organizational behavior, team dynamics, organizations and management strategies; and this work is scattered across a wide variety of topics. The proposed conference will collect the work of pioneers in this resurgent research on status and organizations together to inform scholars in these fields about the powerful role status can play in explaining leadership, team dynamics, organizational forms and performance and management strategies. The conference provides an opportunity for these leading scholars to learn from one another’s work. Cambridge University Press has agreed to publish a book of the scholarship coming out of the Center’s Inaugural Research Conference. The Tentative Table of Contents for that book can be found by clicking here: Table of Contents.
