The following Social Responsibility Initiative (SRI) Projects are available for the fall 2009 quarter. The following description provides a quick glimpse of the organizations and the projects. Each project has a matching PowerPoint presentation available on Catalyst with more specific details.

MARKETING PROJECTS


1. Change a Life Foundation

The Change a Life Foundation mission is to significantly assist individuals and families who, through no fault of their own, have experienced an injury, illness, or catastrophic life event, and who are suffering financial hardship.  Change a Life Foundation provides support for critically-needed assistance that promotes self-sufficiency, and improves quality of life. The organization serves more than 1,000 low income residents from Orange County and Los Angeles County on an annual basis.  More information about the organization is available at www.changealife.org


Project Overview
Change a Life Foundation solicits an MBA team to develop a marketing strategy that will increase the visibility of their scholarship program in the Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange Counties.


2. El Viento Foundation
El Viento’s mission is to provide opportunities for children and young adults to learn life skills through a long-term relationship based on mutual trust and respect, teamwork, leadership, skill building and learning. The organization offers college scholarships to needy children, after-school tutoring, a summer camp experience and field trips for cultural enhancement as a means to help them be prepared for college and life. Students enter the program in the 4th grade and are part of the program until the high school graduation. El Viento serves 200 students in k – 12 grades. Project Overview
El Viento Foundation is soliciting an MBA team to propose a social enterprise product for the organization.


3. Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA)
OCAPICA was established in 1997 with the mission to build a healthier and stronger community by enhancing the well-being of Asians and Pacific Islanders through inclusive partnerships in the areas of service, education, advocacy, organizing, and research. OCAPICA provides academic, health research, outreach and education programs including after-school programs, health awareness programs, and tutoring programs. OCIPICA serves more than 1,000 low-income community members. More information about the organization is available at www.ocapica.org


Project Overview
OCAPICA solicits an MBA team to develop a marketing plan that will help increase visibility in Central and South Orange County.  The MBA team that works on this project will also have an opportunity to present its marketing plan to the OCAPICA Board. 


4. Ripple Kids, INC
The mission of Ripple Kids, Inc. is to inspire and empower kids to take action in their communities by publicizing the success of their peers. Ripple Kids achieves its mission through three programs: 1) Interactive Web site  2) School Recognition Program 3) Ripple Kids Team Meetings. The program is provided at no cost to the child or his/her family and addresses the “whole” child.  Ripple Kids serves 200 – 500 k-6 grades students on an annual basis.  More information is available at www.ripplekids.com.



Project Overview
Ripple Kids solicits an MBA team to develop a phased marketing plan that will grow in scope as their resources grow.


BUSINESS AND STRATEGIC PLANS


5. Coastal Mountain Youth Academy
Coastal Mountain Youth Academy (CMYA) is a recovery high school located in San Juan Capistrano California.  The mission at CMYA is to provide an educational and therapeutic program for adolescents that have not been successful in the traditional setting. CMYA provides academic, counseling, family therapy and educational services and programs.  CMYA serves 100 students from the Orange County area on an annual basis. Project Overview
The vision of CMYA has been to grow its program by adding a therapeutic boarding school in order to serve youth and their families who need a higher level of care while continuing our day program.    CMYA is looking for an MBA team to create a general business plan to build a residential therapeutic boarding school in Orange County.



6. Project HOPE School Foundation
The mission of Project HOPE School Foundation is to provide financial and community support to Project HOPE School, the only school dedicated to providing quality education and positive life experiences to homeless children living in Orange County.  The mission of Project HOPE School is to provide a public, alternative education that prepares homless K-8 students to become academically prepared, capable members of society. Project Overview
Project HOPE School Foundation is are a relatively new foundation (6 yrs old). They are soliciting an MBA team to develop a strategic plan for aligning organizational goals and strategies to resources. 


7. Someone Cares Soup Kitchen
Someone Cares Soup Kitchen mission is to feed the hungry and provide education for the children in the communities they serve. They believe that no one should go to bed hungry, on the street or otherwise. Someone Cares Soup Kitchen annually provides meals to over 120,000 guests, Christmas toy distribution, and holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Additionally, the organization distributes necessity items such as blankets, bus passes, toiletries, diapers, baby formula/food, socks, sleeping bags, backpacks, grocery bags. Project Overview
Someone Cares Soup Kitchen has embarked on a Social Enterprise project with 4 selected items (fresh salsa, garlic infused oil, cookbook and dry soup mix). The organization would like an MBA team to create a business plan for these 4 items.
