The Center for Real Estate

Rows of homesEducation is one of the Center for Real Estate’s three core missions along with research and outreach.  Recognizing the importance of educating future real estate professionals, the Center does much to support and enhance the Program in Real Estate and Urban Development at UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business. The Real Estate and Urban Development Program’s focused curriculum provides students with a multidimensional perspective on real estate market behavior in which the physical, temporal, economic, financial and social perspectives are relevant. The Center is essential to the success of Real Estate and Urban Development Program’s educational curriculum.

One of the important ways the Center assists real estate students is through providing access to top industry professionals. The Center’s Advisory Board, composed of real estate industry leaders, contributes to the educational mission of the real estate program in a variety of capacities. Advisory Board members educate students in courses as distinguished professional lecturers. They also serve as informal advisors to students as well as participate in the Center’s Mentorship and Internship Programs. The Mentorship Program gives students the opportunity to “shadow” senior real estate executives at meetings, presentations and strategy sessions. Students participating in the program also gain one-on-one career guidance from successful industry professionals.

The Internship Program gives students the ability to work on individual or team projects within established firms. A hallmark of the real estate curriculum is its action learning approach that exposes students to the world of professional real estate via case studies, individual assignments and team projects at successful firms. The Center utilizes its large professional network of members and friends to place students on productive and instructive internships. Center members and friends also form “review panels,” “investment committees” and “juries” to judge and provide constructive feedback on student projects.
