Are there emphases within the major?
Yes. Emphases within the major include:
- Health Care Management
- Information Systems
- Operations and Decision Technologies
- Organization and Management
Which freshman/sophomore level courses are required as part of the major?
- Mathematics 2A-B Single Variable Calculus (two quarters required)
- Economics 20A-B Basic Economics I, II (two quarters required)
- Management 7 Statistics for Business Decision Making
- Management 1 Introduction to Business and Management
- Management 30A Introduction to Financial Accounting
- Management 30B Introduction to Managerial Accounting
Are potential California Community College equivalencies being reviewed for lower division courses to assist prospective transfer students?
Certainly. As articulation agreements are developed, the information will be available on www.assist.org.
Does the Merage School of Business offer any minor programs?
Yes, two minors. UC Irvine students from all non-Merage School majors are invited to apply to the Accounting or Management minor programs (students may not complete both minors).
Are students able to minor in Accounting or Management while in the business major?
No, as this course work is already incorporated into core and elective options within the major program.
Does a student need to major in business to pursue a career in the field, or to later pursue an MBA degree?
Absolutely not! Your path to management or business success does not necessarily begin by earning an undergraduate business degree. In fact, there are a variety of academic disciplines valued by business and industry. By enrolling in the UC Irvine minor in Management or the UC Irvine minor in Accounting, students can equip themselves with the perfect complement to any UC Irvine major.
