Merage School Undergrads Head to Edwards Lifesciences
For the past three years, Edwards Lifesciences has hired UC Irvine students to participate in their 24- month, rotational Accounting and Finance Development Program (AFDP). Two of those fortunate students were from the Merage School.
"In January 2012, the Merage School sent out an email regarding the full-time AFDP position," said Oliver Moravcevic, a Merage School undergraduate student.
"Being familiar with the company, I simply couldn't pass up on this opportunity. With the help of Chang Hu, associate director of Undergraduate Programs/Career Counseling, who offered some insightful resumewriting and jobsearch tips, I applied and in less than a week I was invited to my first interview. I am truly grateful for all the support the Merage School has given me, and for helping me join the Edwards Lifesciences team."
"The Merage School prepared me for this amazing rotational finance program by providing the resources to develop the intangibles that are so important to one's assimilation into the corporate world," said Merage School undergraduate student George Goodman.
"Through my experience at the School I developed my teamwork and leadership abilities, and became an effective communicator. I use these skills every day at Edwards to provide quality work across our global finance teams." Goodman added, "In addition, the top quality professors and lecturers at the Merage School gave me the per fect blend of theory and practical knowledge that allows me to provide financial analysis and suggest process improvements for the company."
Par ticipants in the Edwards Lifesciences AFDP rotational typically assume high-impact roles within Edwards, primarily in the company's global headquar ters in Irvine, California.
"We are committed to hiring high quality candidates for our rotational program and fortunately we didn't have to look far to find what we needed," said Keith Boothroyd '96, CMA, senior director of Finance and CSS BU controller at Edwards Lifesciences**. "For three years running we have hired UC Irvine undergraduate students to join our medical device company here in Irvine. The last two hires came out of the Merage School's undergraduate program. I am excited that my alma mater added this degree as an option for students, because it provides the type of educational background we are looking for in potential candidates. We have experienced great success with these hires and plan to continue tapping into this resource for years to come."
**Congratulations go out to our Merage School MBA alumnus Keith Boothroyd who was promoted to Senior Director at Edwards Lifesciences in April of this year.
