Members Salon: Philosophy on Tap with UCI Alum Matt Lawrence
June 7, 2012, 4pm - 6pm
At the private Newport Beach home of Prosperitas member (location sent to RSVPs)

The Prosperitas group ends an amazing year of
trips, tours and terrific discussions with a fun afternoon of
Philosphy on Tap, presented by UC Irvine alumnus Matt Lawrence who earned his PhD in Philosophy from the School of Humanities. Along with his book signing, he'll share his knowledge and wit while he teaches us that when beer begins to flow, so does mindful contemplation: it can only be an afternoon of intrigue, debate, laughter and enlightenment that follows.
Matt Lawrence is now Professor of Philosophy at Long Beach City College in Long Beach, California. He is also the author of
Like a Splinter in Your Mind: The Philosophy Behind the Matrix Trilogy (Blackwell, 2004). In his newest book available at the salon for signing,
Philosophy on Tap, aims to give people a taste for important ideas by Socrates, Nietzsche, the Buddha and other great thinkers. Among the big concepts and questions covered in small, easy-to-digest chapters: “If God exists, why are there bad beers?” and “Is your next round totally predictable?” and “Does time exist? What about happy hour?” and, in a twist on a famous Zen koan, “What is the sound of one glass clinking?”
