2012 Commencement Address from Chris White at Cisco Systems Inc.
Dear Merage School Family,
It is with great pleasure that I announce Chris White, Vice President of the Emerging Technologies Group at Cisco Systems, as our 2012 Commencement keynote speaker. Chris joined the Dean’s Advisory Board in 2010 and his insight, drive and sense of humor have made him a very welcome addition to our guiding team.
Chris is responsible for creating effective go-to-market models to aggressively grow each of Cisco’s Emerging Technologies businesses to $1billion. The current portfolio of solutions includes Connected Energy Networks, Digital Media Systems, Physical Security, Media Experience and Analytics and Home Networking.
Chris’s portfolio responsibilities also include Smart and Connected Communities, Sports and Entertainment and Virtual HealthPresence. Chris is also a member of various Cisco Corporate Social Responsibility projects focused on providing education, rural development, healthcare and the reengineering of Cisco’s matching fund strategy.
Prior to his role within the Emerging Technologies Group, Chris led Cisco’s Consumer segment go-to-market strategy that re-established a global focus on the home networking space, developed strategic partnerships with the top global retailers and drove the transformation of Cisco’s Consumer strategy.
Additionally, Chris worked in Bangalore, India, and established the Cisco Globalization Center East, a critical research and development, data center and globalization hub for Cisco, where he served as Chief of Staff for Wim Elfrink, Executive VP and Chief Globalization Officer.
Prior to Cisco, Chris held various executive roles in two successful start-ups, Network Managers (UK) Ltd, which was sold to Microsoft in 1992, and TGV Software Inc., which was sold to Cisco in 1995. Born and educated in England, he represented Great Britain in rowing in the World Championships in 1981 and 1982. Chris and his wife, Trish, have lived in multiple countries across the globe and are the proud parents of a son and a daughter.
As you can see from his extensive background, Chris White exemplifies the ideals of The Paul Merage School of Business: innovation, global leadership, sustainability and growth. I am very proud that he has accepted our invitation to speak at Commencement, especially in this landmark year when we will be graduating our first full class of undergraduate business majors. Whether you are a graduate or not, I invite you to join us in celebrating at the Bren Center on June 17.
Merage is on the move, indeed.
