CANCELLATIONS:

Cancellations must be received in writing. Please email lalbovias@merage.uci.edu. There is a $500 non-refundable deposit, and you will be charged $100 per Saturday class that has been taught up to the day your written cancellation is received. There will be no refunds after August 23, 2014. All class times and locations are subject to change. There is a minimum number of students required for the course. Should the entire course be cancelled or rescheduled, a full refund of the course registration will be provided.

*In order to be eligible for the CFAOC Society membership rate, registrants must be actively pursuing CFAOC membership at the start of the live review course and attain CFAOC membership by September 15, 2014. Otherwise, registrants will be responsible for paying the difference in registration price from the general public registration rate, which will be due immediately upon invoice.

More about Professor Vijay Gurbaxani:
Vijay Gurbaxani is the Taco Bell Professor of Business and Computer Science and Director of the Center for Digital Transformation (CDT) at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. His research, teaching and consulting interests are at the nexus of business strategy and information technology (IT). He focuses on analyzing how emerging information technologies enable business model innovation; on developing and evaluating business-driven strategies for the sourcing of information services; and on valuing IT investment. His approach is distinctive in its use of economic principles as the lens with which to analyze strategic management questions.

Vijay has extensive experience in management education and advisory services, having lectured worldwide on management issues, taught extensively in degree and executive education programs, and consulted for and provided research expertise to many organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, technology service providers, and leading consulting firms. He has been a visiting scholar at the business schools at Stanford University and at MIT. In 1994-95, he was a Research Fellow at Computer Sciences Corporation, where he reported to the President of the Technology Management Group.
 
Vijay has an active research program supported by funds from the National Science Foundation and from industry, having raised over $5M during his career. He authored the book, “Managing Information Systems Costs,” and has published numerous articles in premier journals in his areas of specialization including Information Systems Research, Management Science, MIS Quarterly and Sloan Management Review. His expertise in outsourcing was recognized when he won the 2002 Outsourcing World Achievement Award in the Academic category by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Michael Corbett and Associates at the fourth annual Outsourcing World Summit Conference & Exposition.
 
Dr. Gurbaxani received an integrated 5-year Master's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He received Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Business Administration from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Rochester, New York. His doctoral thesis won the prize for the best dissertation in a worldwide competition sponsored by the International Center for Information Technologies.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: James C. Capretta, Senior Fellow, Ethics and Public Policy Center, and Visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.


This presentation will examine what the outcome of the mid-term election will mean for implementation of the ACA in 2015 and beyond. Will Congress approve any substantive changes to the law? And will President Obama approve them? Will the GOP rally around a single replacement alternative? And what does it all mean for the likely shape of the debate over the law in the 2016 presidential contest? These and other questions will be addressed in the talk.

The Merage School is dedicating all proceeds from this campaign to the new building fund.

 

It’s easy to participate: all undergrad students can purchase a painted leaf, on which their name will be included, for a minimum of $30 (up to $100). Towards the completion of the new building, we will begin creating the tree mural, which will be in the Undergraduate offices.
