The Hass Avocado Board (HAB) was established in 2002, after approval by producers and importers of Hass avocados in a national referendum. A 12-member board administers the program under USDA supervision. Nearly 20,000 producers and 100 importers are involved in HAB, which covers fresh domestic and imported Hass avocados sold in the U.S. market.
 
  Job Description:

Supervises and directs the financial, operational and technological activities of the Hass Avocado Board (HAB), safeguards the assets, and prepares all financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Serves as a financial advisor to HAB’s Managing Director and Board of Directors.

BASIC FUNCTION Finance

  • Provide leadership in short-range and long-range financial strategic planning
  • Maintain relationship with and represent HAB before the banks
  • Manage HAB funds and investments
  • Perform banking transactions Accounting
  • Manage and perform Accounts Payable functions
  • Administer contracts and Purchase Orders
  • Manage the collection and maintenance of Vendor W-9’s and annual 1099 processing
  • Maintain check register spreadsheet application to retrieve scanned AP files
  • Manage and perform Accounts Receivable functions
  • Maintain General Ledger Reporting
  • Analyze financial and other related data and generate various reports for management, board members and external users
  • Manage annual financial audits and other agreed-upon procedures Administration
  • Manages the company insurance program, including buying, supervising, and contacting insurance companies and brokers
  • Manages the custody of legal contracts
  • Directs the preparation of State and Federal tax reports and keeps current on all tax changes
  • Assists in developing and directing the procurement and accounting of equipment and services and establishing operating policies
  • Coordinates and supervises the purchase of office supplies and furniture, office equipment etc. Assessment Processing
  • Manage assessment recording, reporting, rebating and collections Other
  • Assists in the establishment of policies for the safeguarding of assets
  • Create and manage internal controls, cost containment, and project management
  • Recommends the appointment of the independent public accountants
  • Reviews and audits USDA expenditures
  • Assists with overall corporate and operational objectives
  • Serves on Finance Committee and reports financial information to the Board
  • Serve as financial liaison with other HAB associations
  • Assists in the management of the corporate information technology system and infrastructure Human Resources
  • Manages the outsourcing of Payroll and Human Resources activities
  • Manages and administers the pension plan ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP Reports directly to HAB’s Managing Director
 
  Qualifications:
A minimum of a BS; a CPA and/or MBA would be a plus. • At least five years experience as Controller or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $10 million. • Experience in a senior financial-management role resulting in the development and implementation of financial management strategies.
• Significant experience in or knowledge of governmental accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting. • Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packages. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Demonstrated leadership ability and interpersonal skills. • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills
