Join Us to Explore the Amazing Discoveries across UCI!

Prosperitas has literally opened the door to such experiences as:

- Mojave Desert Spaceport

- San Quentin Prison

- UCI School of Medicine Virtual Dementia Tour

- and much more

Under the leadership of Co-Chairs Frank Kavanaugh & Renee Pepys Lowe and Executive Director Mary Patrick, the Prosperitas Group at The Paul Merage UCI Medical School Dean Ralph Clayman shows Prosperitas members how portable ultrasounds may replace the stethescope.School of Business connects successful community leaders to transformative work happening across the UC Irvine campus.

Members enjoy a “back stage pass” to the ideas, innovators, and organizations that are changing the world for good. In turn, they serve as University ambassadors by sharing the information and excitement with their own extended communities for the long-term benefit of UC Irvine.

"Meeting with the prisoners at San Quentin was life-changing. I never knew that despite its Death Row reputation, it offers some amazing stories of rehabilitation -- even among lifers. They've made the best of their 'city behind bars' through education, art, and their desire to actually help others."

Members typically meet once each month, September through June, alternating formats to accommodate most schedules as often as possible:

  • Morning UC Irvine "Backstage Pass" tours highlight an exciting new discovery followed by discussion at lunch, plus one or two “field trip” formats that may be day-long visits to related venues.  You’ll meet the scholars and business leaders who are advancing science, technology, business, politics, social movements, community and the arts in unique and startling ways.
  • Social Ecology Dean Val Jenness joins a members salon to discuss the state prison system as a prelude to a tour of San Quentin Prison. Members Salons are social gatherings hosted at the homes of Prosperitas members for lively discussion and debate on the topic at hand, often facilitated by a UC Irvine thought-leader who helps to reinforce knowledge gained during tours and outline ways you can share this information with your spheres of influence.

Note from the Founders

We initially launched Prosperitas as a safe harbor for successful entrepreneurs to connect and recalibrate in the disorienting period following the sale of a company.  The Merage School’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and growth also made it the perfect environment to engage with the ideas and organizations that are making a positive difference in the world -- an area of particular interest to our members.

In our ongoing quest to locate nationally recognized keynote speakers, we were delighted to discover a startling wealth of resources and expertise right here at UC Irvine. For almost every topic we tackled – ranging from global warming to childhood obesity to the death penalty and state budget crisis – we located UCI students, professors, staff, corporate partners, or board members who were working passionately to transform each one of the obstinate social, political, scientific, spiritual and health topics we explored. Thus, in addition to enjoying one another, we also invited these inspiring UCI scholars, students and "change agents" to attend our meetings.  And, to our delight, the unintended consequences of creating this new community resulted in some exciting outgrowths.

In appreciation for having the opportunity to enjoy the resources and enlightenment available on this campus, the Prosperitas group not only helps to support the educational programs of The Paul Merage School of Business, our new membership structure also allows members to direct a portion of their membership donation to any department or program at UC Irvine.

We look forward to sharing our "Back Stage Pass to UCI" with you – we want others to discover the amazing resources and intellectual capital to be found at this amazing campus. If you are interested in learning more, contact us here.
