Distinguished Speaker Series: Featuring Palmer Luckey, Founder of Anduril Industries and Oculus VR

Our Distinguished Speaker Series (DSS) has contributed to broadening the dynamic educational experience of Merage School students and the community by bringing influential leaders to campus, encouraging thought-provoking conversations and the exchange of ideas. Through DSS-sponsored lectures and collaborations, we strive to achieve our mission of being at the forefront of thought-leadership and academic excellence.

The Spring 2019 event, presented by the Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, highlights the leadership perspectives, ethical frameworks, decision-making processes and insights of Palmer Luckey, Founder of Anduril Industries and Oculus VR.

This is a great opportunity to network with approximately 300 corporate professionals, community leaders, MBA students, faculty members and campus staff.

Distinguished Speaker

Palmer LuckeyPalmer Luckey
Founder, Anduril Industries and Oculus VR

Palmer Luckey is the Founder of Anduril Industries, a defense technology company that works to make America safer by inventing products with a focus on AI, immersive systems, and sensor fusion. He is also the inventor and designer of the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality head-mounted display, and the founder of Oculus VR. Palmer founded Oculus in 2012 after experimenting with his own VR designs at the age of 16 in his parents’ garage. Oculus was acquired by Facebook two years later.

His deep interest in defense technology was driven by his time at the USC ICT MxR lab, where he built hardware used to research immersive PTSD treatment for US veterans. He continued to support various military applications of VR during his time at Oculus, informing his belief that radical modernization of US military technology is a prerequisite for preserving our way of life.

This passion led to Palmer founding Anduril in 2017.
