In March of this year, 12 of southern California’s hottest startups took the stage to deliver a 60-second pitch at the 2nd Annual Tech Coast Angels Celebration of Entrepreneurship event held at the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa. Judges based scores on presentation and fundability, and prizes were awarded for Best Overall, Best Presentation and Most Fundable.
FunBand was one of the audience favorites and won Best Presentation for their product, FunLoop, a wristband with an app using the latest technology to help parents keep track of their kids in amusement parks.
CEO Rehema Feleke said, “FunLoop is the kid tracker that amusement parks have been waiting for.”
FunBand will partner with amusement parks, zoos, and county fairs to make it convenient for parents to use the tracker.
Since the Tech Coast Angels event, things have been moving quickly for FunBand, which is preparing to pitch more angel investors for funding.
“I never ever expected any of this when I came to the Merage School - it’s such a wonderful development and a testament to the life changing experience of the MBA program,” said Feleke.
FunBand was recently featured on the local cable show, Eye on Business. Watch the interview on YouTube here.
Founded early in 2016, FunBand is the brainchild of Merage School Alumna Rehema Feleke (HCEMBA ’16) a pediatric emergency physician and Simon Loo, FEMBA ’17, an engineer. The two conceived the idea of FunBand after a near abduction of a friend’s child in an amusement park. The startup went on to win first place in the UCI Business Plan competition May 2016 and have been making significant headway since. Learn more about FunBand at funbandinc.com.
