Eight City and County Employees Awarded Fellowships

October 18, 2017 • By UCI Paul Merage School of Business

Six employees from the County of Orange and two city employees – one from Anaheim and one from Irvine – have been selected to receive fellowships to help finance an MBA program at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business.

County of Orange recipients include Mario Bustos, an administrative manager, and Dorin Dorin, an information processing technician, both of whom are enrolled in the Merage School Fully Employed MBA hybrid program, along with Cara Allen, a staff specialist, who received a merit scholarship and is also attending the FEMBA hybrid program.  Cecilia Holloway, a senior IT business analyst; Jyothi Atluri, an administrative manager; and Debra Baetz, the deputy director of Operations Management and Support, are enrolled in the Executive MBA program. City employees, including Jason McBride, a strategic planning manager from the City of Anaheim, and Amy Roblyer, a senior management analyst from the City of Irvine, are also enrolled in the Executive MBA program.  All eight of the recipients began classes this quarter at the Merage School.

The fellowship program tasked the city and county officials with nominating exceptional staff members who met the fellowship criteria.  Once selected, these government employees are eligible to receive a substantial reduction in tuition to attend the Merage School Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA), Executive MBA (EMBA) or Health Care Executive MBA (HCEMBA) programs.

The County of Orange Fellowship program, launched in Spring 2017, is extension of the Merage School’s City Manager Fellowship program which began in Spring of 2016.  New fellowship opportunities will be available for Spring 2018 (FEMBA only) and Fall 2018 (FEMBA, EMBA and HCEMBA).  To be eligible for either the City Manager or County of Orange Fellowship Program, employees must have, among other requirements, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a record of academic achievement.  They also must have a letter of nomination from their city manager or department head.  The City Manager and the County of Orange Fellowship Programs are two of many financial assistance programs available through The Paul Merage School of Business.  To find out more and to check eligibility requirements, contact Sonia Batra, associate director of Admissions for the FEMBA, EMBA and HCEMBA programs, at 949.824.1303 or by email at sbatra1@uci.edu.
