Kevin Wu, MBA ’20 was named Protégé of the Year for his outstanding effort in the Business Executive Mentoring Program at the UCI Paul Merage School of Business.
“Wu is passionate, receptive, and he always asks the right questions,” said Wu’s mentor, Bob Bova.
Wu arrived at the Merage School with a strong background in product innovation, and a desire to build his skills in business and entrepreneurship. He joined the mentoring program at the Merage School to expand his knowledge and his network, and since then, he has reaped the rewards.
In the mentorship program, Bova, the CEO and president of AccuSpeechMobile, provided Wu with invaluable insight into his strengths and weaknesses, and offered guidance for the New Venture Competition, an annual competition hosted by the Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
“Wu is wide open to trying new things,” said Bova, who has participated in the Merage School’s executive mentoring program for more than 10 years. “His commitment to utilizing me and refreshing his ideas has been very impressive. He has the head and heart to get exactly what he needs to be successful.”
In return, Wu was proactive in reaching out to Bova, and was always willing to rethink his ideas and consider others’ perspectives to make improvements. He was also able to ascertain a realistic idea about career prospects upon graduation, and he is already off to a great start.
Additionally, Wu has earned a summer internship at Amazon, where he will apply his experience in product innovation and leadership to develop new ideas and product strategies for the global company.
