With this newest gift, Monson’s campaign commitment to the school exceeds $3 million

The Monson Match: Alumna Pledges 1.5 Million in Legacy Giving

October 17, 2019 • By UCI Paul Merage School of Business

Kristen Monson has pledged $1.5 million in legacy giving, bringing her campaign commitment to the School to over $3 million. A double UCI alumna in Economics (’82) and Business Administration (’86), Monson previously named the third floor terrace of the Merage School’s new building. She made her career as an executive at PIMCO and was honored as the Merage School’s commencement speaker in 2016.

“When Dean Spangenberg arrived at UCI over five years ago, I was inspired to commit my philanthropy to his vision,” says Monson. “As his Dean’s Advisory Board chair and partner for the duration of his time at the Merage School, I have seen first-hand how his readiness to challenge convention changed and propelled our school forward."

“It is with great pride that I commit this legacy gift today, with the hope that it will inspire my fellow alumni and community members alike to think about their long-term plans for giving back to our School,” she continued.

With this challenge gift, Monson calls on all alumni and stakeholders within the Merage School community to consider their impact through estate giving. Over the next five years, the Merage School will participate in the most ambitious comprehensive capital campaign in UCI’s history. Through this campaign our local and global community will build a brilliant future for generations to come.

“Kristen's most recent commitment to the Merage School once again raises the bar of philanthropic excellence for our community,” says Dean Spangenberg. “She is a dedicated alumna with a passion for promoting the role of women within our organization. Her engagement has been meaningful beyond measure, and we are lucky to call her our own. Her idea to use this gift to challenge other alumni and friends to think about how they can create their own impact exemplifies her leadership yet again. This investment sets the standard for legacy giving and positions our school for unprecedented growth and success, throughout this campaign and in perpetuity."

The Paul Merage School of Business is grateful for the generous support of Kristen Monson and donors like her.
