UC Irvine finance professor, Christopher Schwarz, explains what to expect following President Trump’s pause on all tariffs except China. “There was always this idea that Trump was ignoring the market and eventually he’d listen to the market. And certainly I think the idea here was he decided to lower the tariffs because especially the bond market overnight was pretty volatile – and he actually listed it as one of his reasons for lowering the tariffs – so, I think it was a bit of a relief that maybe the market will have some influence in trying to moderate these tariffs a bit,” says Schwarz.
