UCI Paul Merage School of Business Dean Elected to AACSB Board of Directors

Ian O. Williamson, Ph.D., dean of The UCI Paul Merage School of Business, was recently elected to serve as a member of The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Board of Directors. Dean Williamson is one of eight prominent leaders from business education and industry who were newly appointed to AACSB board of directors for fiscal year (FY) 2022-23, including members in locations ranging from North Carolina, Hawaii, Malaysia and Denmark.

AACSB International, a global nonprofit association, connects educators, students and business to achieve a common goal: to create the next generation of great leaders. Synonymous with the highest standards of excellence since 1916, AACSB provides quality assurance, business education intelligence and learning and development services to over 1,850 member organizations and more than 950 accredited business schools worldwide.

AACSB’s board comprises leaders from both academia and business who serve as stewards to advance quality business education and enrich an ever-changing workforce. Working within the context of policy governance principles, AACSB's board of directors determines its own philosophy, accountability and operations, with a focus on vision, values and strategic leadership. Board members serve as stewards for AACSB out of an earnest desire to advance quality business education and support global leaders.

A talented and long-time member of the business education community, Williamson was appointed dean of the Merage School on January 1, 2021. Prior to joining the Merage School, he served as pro vice-chancellor and dean of commerce at the Wellington School of Business and Government at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is a globally recognized expert in the area of human resource management with research that examines the impact of “talent pipelines” on organizational and community outcomes. Williamson has assisted executives in over 20 countries across six continents enhance firm operational and financial outcomes, improve talent recruitment and retention, enhance firm innovation and understand the impact of social issues on firm outcomes.

Dean Williamson’s AACSB Board of Directors appointment is a 3-year position, effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2025.
