Irvine, CA - (April 14, 2023) -

The Merage School is excited to announce that the 2023 Distinguished Commencement Speaker for our 55th annual Celebration on June 20 will be Ramin Mousavi, President and CEO of CathWorks.

“I am delighted to welcome Ramin to deliver our commencement address,” said Dean Ian O. Williamson. “On top of being an exceptional business executive, he continues to give back to the school in a number of invaluable ways. As one of the great success stories of the Merage School, Ramin is uniquely positioned to be our distinguished commencement speaker.”

Under Ramin’s bold leadership, CathWorks recently announced a strategic partnership with Medtronic, the world largest medical device company, accelerating its mission to transform how cardiovascular disease is diagnosed and treated. Prior to his current position, Ramin held different general management, marketing, and strategy roles at Baxter International and Edwards Lifesciences. Prior to that, he spent several years in the aerospace industry working for Panasonic Avionics and Rockwell Collins. Ramin has undergraduate degrees from UCI in electrical and computer engineering, and an MBA from the Merage School.

Ramin has stayed connected with the school through serving as Chair of the Dean’s Leadership Circle. He has helped expand the DLC Grant Initiative funding opportunity that benefits students, faculty, and the local business community.

The Merage School played a significant role in Ramin’s career transformation from engineering in the aerospace industry to business leadership in healthcare. While earning his MBA, he realized that he had a talent for marketing, and he identified a personal passion for working in healthcare because he wanted to make a difference in peoples’ lives.

“When I think about the pivotal decisions that have changed the trajectory of my life, choosing to come to the Merage School was a key moment for me,” Ramin said. “The Merage experience provided me with the necessary skill set to lead in the business world. I am very passionate about this school and its impact on our community, and honored to celebrate this year’s graduates.”

The commencement will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20 at the Bren Events Center at 100 Mesa Road, Irvine. Students will be required to check in at 7:30 a.m.

All graduates must register to participate and order tickets for their guests by April 21. To register, visit https://commencement.uci.edu/registration.html
