Does this program award the same degree as the Full-Time MBA Program and the Fully Employed MBA Program at Merage?
Yes. All Health Care Executive MBA students receive a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
How is the HCEMBA program different than the other MBA programs offered at Merage?
The HCEMBA program is specifically designed for health care professionals who want to gain business expertise. Students are clinicians, professionals, entrepreneurs, and executives who work exclusively in the health care industry. While many course titles similar to the Executive MBA program, courses use health care case studies. Additionally, special topics courses are often health care focused and HCEMBA students take a week long residential course in Washington D.C. to learn about how health care policy is developed in our nation.
What is the class meeting schedule?
Classes meet one weekend per month, from Thursday at 7:00 pm through Sunday at noon. (3) off-site learning residentials are required. These include a 5 day opening residential; a weeklong residential on Federal Policy in Healthcare midway through the program; and a final 5 day Executive Leadership residential.
How long is the MBA program?
The Health Care Executive MBA Program is 21 months long. It starts in September every year and ends 21 months later in June.
How much time do students spend outside the classroom working on projects?
Merage HCEMBA students spend an average of 15-20 hours a week outside the classroom on individual assignments and group projects.
How large is the entering class?
The HCEMBA entering class will be between 25-30 students.
Does my undergraduate degree need to be in business?
You are not required to have an undergraduate degree in the business area. The Merage School recruits and admits individuals from a broad range of academic and professional backgrounds, many of whom have advanced or doctoral degrees.
What is the cost of the Health Care Executive MBA Program?
The total cost for the Fall 2017 EMBA Program was $113,211 or $16,173 per quarter. There are four quarters in the first year of the program, and three in the second year. Tuition includes registration, fees, textbooks and materials,course software, parking, lodging during all three residentials, and meals while on campus. Tuition is expected to increase 2-5% for the entering Fall 2018 class.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. Financial aid is not based on need. A number of financial aid opportunities are available, including government and private loans. See Financial Aid for more information.
Do you recommend I visit the campus?
In addition to having a 4 year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University, it is important to demonstrate competence in analytical skills in your application, either through undergraduate math courses or your GMAT score. We also recommend students have a working knowledge of Excel prior to starting the program.
Are there any prerequisites for this program?

What are the minimum requirements for admittance to the HCEMBA program?
Students must have a Bachelor’s Degree (a GPA of 3.0 or better is preferred) and a minimum of five years of work experience. GMAT results may be requested. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) results may required if the language of instruction at your undergraduate university was not in English.
How much is the application fee? Can it be waived?
The application fee is $150. We waive the application fee for veterans and current members of the U.S. military, as well as UCI Alumni.
What does the Admissions Committee look for in an applicant?
The Admissions committee takes into consideration the candidate's professional background, including progression in your career, academic preparedness, accomplishments and strong interpersonal skills.

Is the GMAT/GRE required?
The GMAT/GRE is not required. The GMAT or GRE exam may be requested by the admissions committee for those applicants who are unable to demonstrate, either through past academic performance or work experience, sufficient strength in the areas of quantitative and analytical reasoning.
How do I apply?
From whom should I get my letters of recommendation?
Two (2) professional letters of recommendation are required for every application. One (1) letter should come from your current employer or supervisor, or from a recent employer or supervisor. If you are a CEO or entrepreneur, a letter from a colleague or client would be appropriate. There is an online recommendation form attached to your application.
