What do you like about the Merage School?

What I value most about the Merage School are the resources it provides for students to grow their passions within the world of business. The Merage School has given me various opportunities to grow my passion for completing projects and cultivating meaningful relationships with people; two essential components of Project Management, which is my current industry of interest. UC Irvine as a whole has a vast number of resources for students, which can be overwhelming for some to navigate. The Merage School empowers students by making these resources readily accessible and directly applicable to their unique career aspirations, enabling them to utilize this support for their professional journey.

What motivated you to become a PAA?

I became a PAA to give back to my community what was once given to me. During my first year, I remember how overwhelming and challenging it was to adjust to college. One of the resources I utilized during my first year was the Merage Undergraduate Programs drop-in advising appointments. All my appointments were helpful and insightful, ultimately making me realize that there are many avenues to graduate, get involved on campus, and survive classes! In the same way, I desire to help students who were once in my shoes. It is challenging to navigate the many resources available at UC Irvine, but I hope to be the person that gets to help and point many students to the resources they need during their time at the Merage School.

What do you like about the Merage School?

The opportunities and the people! The Merage School is well known for being a tight-knit community with vast resources unique to BA/BIM students. From the numerous business organizations available to the networking events hosted, it became easy to immerse myself in this business community. I have always felt supported during my time here, primarily due to all that Merage has to offer.

What motivated you to become a PAA?

I became a PAA because I understand how overwhelming it can be to navigate resources by yourself, and there are times when academics can be stressful. I found talking to the Peer Academic Advisors extremely useful, especially when I had enrollment questions, and they could provide more insight from a student perspective. Due to this experience, I became a PAA to give students the same reassurance and guidance that helped me feel more comfortable in higher education.

Olivia Zhang, 4th Year

What do you like about the Merage School?

I love the authenticity and genuine drive for constant growth within the Merage School community. From the vast number of resources that support students in their professional development to the knowledge sharing and perpetual stream of opportunities, the Merage School has helped shape where I am today in my career and provided me with an invaluable support system that consistently challenges me to improve.

What motivated you to become a PAA?

I became a PAA because I know how difficult it is to get started in an unfamiliar place where everything feels too large and uncertain. I want to share my lessons learned and experiences to help other students manage the overwhelming environment of university life and guide them away from some of the mistakes I made when I first arrived at UC Irvine. I am so excited for the journey that lies ahead and I can’t wait to learn together!

What do you like about the Merage School?

I love the Merage School because of the community it provides us within UC Irvine. You'll likely see familiar faces in your classes and clubs, which helps you make friends and makes your college experience so enjoyable! Additionally, the Merage School has so many resources to support us, from our career center with amazing career advisors to our amazing academic advisors who you can schedule appointments with. Lastly, all the students really want to help one another succeed in class or with securing an internship and you truly feel supported and inspired to help other students in a similar way.

What motivated you to become a PAA?

I became a PAA because the academic advising office has done so much for me! A past PAA told me so many nice programs to involve in my first year and really calmed my nerves about getting an internship. She also talked with me for over forty minutes and really made me feel understood and cared for. I hope to have even 1% of that impact on students during this upcoming year.

What do you like about the Merage School?

My favorite thing about the Merage School is its environment. Beyond the nice facilities, it fosters curiosity and community. I have experienced this through both classes and student organizations, and I’m proud to carry this reputation with me into any workplace.

What motivated you to become a PAA?

I became a PAA to be a resource for other students. As a transfer, the academic advising office helped me adjust, sort out my schedule, and plan future quarters. Since I received so much support, I wanted to give back and help students in their own undergraduate journey.

What do you like about the Merage School?

I'm incredibly grateful to have been part of this community throughout all four years of my college journey. At Merage, I've always felt cared for and valued as an individual. Even though it's a small community, I love how open and supportive everyone is, always willing to connect and help one another succeed. I've also made some of my closest friends through the business school, and I'm truly thankful to have found a home away from home here.
