Education

PhD in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, Stanford University

Professor Gerardo Okhuysen joined The Paul Merage School of Business in July 2012 as a Professor of Organization and Management. He is also the Associate Dean of Masters Programs at the Merage School. His teaching focuses on Organizational Behavior, Effectiveness of Groups and Teams, and Decision Making. In general, Professor Okhuysen is concerned with improving the leadership and management skills that individuals need to effectively influence group and organizational functioning. He comes to the Merage School from the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

In his research, Professor Okhuysen primarily works with groups in different decision situations, focusing on the management of task and environmental uncertainty. His work has examined negotiation settings, groups working on ambiguous or uncertain tasks, the role of context in group work, as well as small organizations working in contexts of high uncertainty. His current projects examine group dynamics, group success, and how emotion is embedded in the activities of people in decision making and other contexts. 

Professor Okhuysen’s work has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Annals of the Academy of Management, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Organization Science.

He received his PhD from Stanford University in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.
