Sandra Portocarrero is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Columbia University and a 2019-2020 doctoral visiting fellow at the Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. Sandra holds a BA in Sociology with high honors from the University of California at Berkeley, a MA and a MPhil in Sociology from Columbia University. She studies issues related to diversity and inclusion. Sandra is currently working on a paper that uses an ethnographic approach to study how organizations foster the creation of stigmatized identities, using an elite university in Lima, Peru as a case. Sandra is an affiliate of Harvard’s Weatherhead Center Research Cluster on Comparative Inequality and Inclusion, a 2015 PD Soros fellow, and a 2017 NSF GRFP fellow.
