What is the UC Investments Academy?
Launched by the UC Office of the President (UCOP) in 2022, this program prepares UC students for careers in asset management. Initially starting with just 100 students at UC Merced, the program has expanded to multiple UC campuses. We are excited to partner with UC Investments to offer this opportunity to UC Irvine students.
Program Overview
The UC Investments Academy offers free asset management training and real-world experience. Participants will build financial literacy in investing and apply their knowledge through projects managing UC’s multi-billion-dollar portfolio.
Participants will connect with finance professionals across investments and wealth management, gaining access to mentorship and internship opportunities. By the end of the program, they will be motivated and equipped with the foundational knowledge to pursue a career in investments.
If you are interested in a career in finance, banking, or investments, this program is for you. It is open to all current undergraduate students, regardless of major, and first- and second-year students are especially encouraged to apply!
As I entered my second year at UC Irvine, I was uncertain about the career path I wanted to pursue. Fortunately, a close friend, who had previously participated in the UC Investments Academy, introduced me to Craig and the UC Investments team. From my discussions with them, I realized that joining the Investments Academy would not only provide me with extensive networking opportunities with industry professionals but also enhance my technical skills, making me a more adept investor and a stronger applicant for internships. In the summer, I'll be in New York City as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst; I spent this past summer interning with the UC Investments Private Equity team; I am the Founder and President of the Irvine Investment and Trading Group (ITG); and I am a member of UC Irvine’s Student Managed Investment Fund. I firmly believe that these opportunities would not have been available to me without the UC Investments Academy, so I strongly encourage any student in a similar situation to join!

The UC Investments Academy has been a transformative experience that provided me with invaluable knowledge and skills. As a first-generation political science student, my personal mentors and university coursework did not support my curiosity about the intricate world of finance. However, UC Investments Academy did just that. Through their exceptional curriculum, dedicated speakers, and workshop instructors, I honed my technical finance skills and was provided the opportunity to develop myself professionally. The UC Investments Academy has led to immense change in my life. The academy's value has allowed me to co-found a finance club, interview with and work at top firms, network with professionals that would have been far out of reach otherwise, and spread a culture of professional development on my campus. This experience has broadened my career prospects and changed the course of my professional future, and if you give it a chance, it can do the same for you.
